We Need Translators Options

If you speak another language, please consider assisting with the translation of the 17's Buddies database language files. The language files are simple text files which allow you to display our site in whatever language you want.

Which languages are there language files for?

Which language files still need to be translated?

• Italian
• Brazilian/Portuguese

How much time will it take?

It is not a huge task. It should take you an afternoon or less to complete if you have a good knowledge of the source language you use.

What do I need to do?

The file you will download contains all the language files that you will have to translate. Download and unzip it to your hard disk drive. We give you two links: one for the french source files (fr.zip), and the other one for the english source files (en.zip). Preferably work form the “fr_” files as these are the originals.

The files are just text files with 'key => value' format. You 'just' have to translate the value.

For special chars to display correctly, you have to save them in UTF-8, without BOM format.

'Without BOM' is important. UTF-8 is not sufficient therefore in order to display special chars.

Notepad windows may not be suitable so use Notepad++ (free) to edit and save files. Before saving, select Format -> Convert to UTF-8 (without BOM) and make sure that Format -> Encode in UTF-8 (without BOM) is selected.

Tips & Tricks:

• Be carefull with single quotes (') and double quotes (") in values fields: never insert a double quote in a value field surrounded by double quotes and vice versa,
• Don't change keys names,
• Don't change specials values as %s, {0}, bbcode fields [], parsed fields {}, etc..,
• Be carefull with 'time_format' and 'date_format' keys: They must correspond to those listed here.
• If you have a doubt for a value translation, look at the key name: perhaps it will help you finding a translation.

Save the files when done under a new name using the name of the language. E.g. sp_xxxx, ru_xxxxx...

If you do read and write one of the languages mentioned above please give this careful consideration. We cannot do this without your help.

After you make a full language pack please post it as a zip file attachment on the Message Board as this board does support it.


How Do I get the files to translate?

And then?

After we have installed your language pack on the site, you just have to select your language in the field box at the top right of each of your pages. That's it.

Ce n'est pas ma langue maternel, mais je le parle un peu quand même (Vive la famille (IMG:http://forum.17buddies.rocks/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ), donc ce n'est pas impossible que je fasse 2-3 erreurs de grammaire ou de traduction. Mais non je m'en suis aperçu que aujourd'hui.
Par contre certains paramètres je n'arrive pas à les éditer correctement vis-à-vis des variables, style:

'no_news' => "Nessun soggetto n'a été trouvé. C'est soit parce qu'il n'y a pas de sujet dans ce forum, soit que les sujets sont plus anciens que la date de sélection courante.",

P.S. Par exemple je pense le mot sélection la sélection mais je voudrais une confirmation, car il y en a pas mal de ces sujets.

Ce sont les accents qui sont remplacés par leurs équivalents HTML:

etc...

Si tu as des caractère accentués où spéciaux, il est impératif de les remplacer par ces équivalents.

Je m'y suis mis c'est bien plus long que ce que j'imaginais....

Vu que je suis portugais j'ai commencé pour la traduction portugaise mais malheureusement c'est un portugais-portugais et non un portugais-brésilien...

J'ai fait que deux fichiers.... c'est bien plus long que je le pensais... parce que le portugais que nous parlons c'est équivalent aux français FAMILIER or pour un site je vais pa mettre du langage familier...

Je vous donne des nouvelles bientôt dès que j'aurai fini le reste...

Je vois "time_left" donc c'est une question de temps je pense...

Ca parrait con mais du français au portugais certaines choses ne se traduisent pas mots pour mots et 1 mot en FR peut en devenir 2 en PT

Waouuu le fichier KEYWORDS un mini dictionnaire... mais certains mots n'ont pas de traduction...
ex: chez (je vais chez le médecin) pas de traduction

cinquantième est neutre en français mais pas en portugais...
cinquantième au masculin = quinquagésimo
cinquantième au féminin = quinquagésima

Plein de petits détails comme ça que je peux pas traduire ou qui se traduisent de 2 manières

comme "ça" ... ça va bien? > tudo bem? ("ça" pas de traduction)

Pour le keywords, il s'agit juste d'un lexique des mots à ne pas utiliser pour sélectionner dans les phrases et donc limiter le nombre de tags.

Juste histoire que dans la phrase "Le mapper a fait un remake de de_dust avec ça" seuls soient sélectionnés les mots mapper, fait, remake et de_dust.

Ce fichier n'est donc pas à traduire tel quel mais à adapter à la langue (articles, adverbes, etc...).

Désolé du double post mais je vien de voir le keywords en question j'ai jeter un rapide coup d'oeil et ça à l'air d'etre bon quelque mots à modifier mais rien de méchant...

Par contre le fichier que tu ma donner contient des caractères spéciaux à la place des accents etc... c'est le fait lire le fichier direct via sur le site ou il contient vraiment des caractères spéciaux?

Btw, I see some non-sence sentences in en translation, I'm sure they we're not translated corectly or missed the point there.

Example:
1. in en-downs.php at //MapBox > 'mappack-explain_17smi' there is something about 17Smi and 17Smi tool... i don't know what translator wanted to say there.
2. in the same file at: // Maps & Wads Details > 'info_add_themes' there is something ambiguous, I think the translator wanted to say this: "If you want to add a new theme, you have to contact the administrator of this site" or so....
etc....

I downloaded Notepad++ 6.1 and I can't see an utf8 extension to save as. I typed the extension myself, but I'm not sure it makes any sense. Can't I just open the .php files with notepad, edit them, save them and then just rename them?

Utf8 isn't an extension and you musn't change them. utf8 is a coding protocol that allow special chars being well displayed in most languages.

You have a menu called "Encoding" or something like that (5th from left in the menu bar) where you can select "Encode in UTF (without BOM)" and you just have to select this option.

If your text doesn't contains special chars, notepad will try to save it in ANSI. If you want to force it saving in utf8 without bom, type one special char in comment and select UTF8 without BOM.

Then, you just have to check that at the bottom right of notepad there is 'ANSI as UTF8' and that 'UTF8 without BOM' is checked in encoding menu.

The file "xx-keywords" is not to translate, but to adapt to your language.

It contains the words that are not considered as keywords in the comments.

For example in the following sentence:
"The mapper has made a fabulous map", the words "the", "has" and "a" are not to be considered as keywords.

This file is only used for this purpose.

Did you save them using utf8 (without BOM) encoding?

Be carefull with sources used. Check that they are up to date because I often add new strings when I develop new features.
