hl1 maps in server issue..............

FATAL ERROR (shutting down): Host_Error: PF_precache_generic_I: Bad string '////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////'

This is the error i chased most of 2013 up to feb.2014
now most would think this is a model error or somthing else in the BSP file so did i early on ,Last year i did a string of maps
gxx_gun_fight 1,2,3, then
gtx_newyears_fight_2014 ( this map threw me this error could not run it in the steam counter strike 1.6 server i had test the other in ) so i ported it to dod for use ( IT WORKED THERE ONLY BECAUSE THE RES FILE WAS FROM ANOTHER SOURCE)
well today i have found that the RES file that is made using the 17 BUDDIES PROGRAM ( I am using the newest version or 2nd newest one )

anyways after trying steam on different drives and valve hammer on different drives and using FGD tools from different sources and trying different textures and trying reducing custom textures to smaller scale and trying just a plaing box with one light and player spawns ...
( also friends who downloaded my maps to there servers using the 17b RES file reported that the "maps worked then stoped working ")

HLBox uses exactly the same code as resgen. The problem was in utf8 without bom and has been fixed since a very long time.

Seems you don't use the lastest version.


Instead of throwing discredit on the 17b and our work by posting countless unnecessary comments on your maps (I also myself deleted) you'd better try to be constructive and to expose more before your problem so that we can really know where the problem is.

Since the GB case we do not quite agree with your attitude, and this last statement is "la goutte d'eau qui fait déborder le vase" in French in the text.

Consequently, I just take away your status manager insofar as I consider that such an attitude is not worthy of a member of the team.

Hlbox17b works fine, some bugs in past, but fixed... and we have a thread for these bugs...

Someone knows a better Hl1,Hl2& CsGo Tools ? I think no...

I'm almost sure that your error isn't due to HLBox in it's lastest version.

As you say, it's only a text file and error could only come from encoding, and it was fixed long time ago.

So, instead of shouting "DO NOT USE THE RES FILE MADE FROM A 17 BUDDIES PROGRAM !" in all your maps, I would have appreciated you to say "Please use an UPDATED version of HLBox for your res files"...

It was nice of them to tell every one once they know their resgenerator had bugs and to update to the newest one. ooo but that did not. Do you now how much time was wasted trying to find out what the source of the error was thanks for the broken program. did you not test this.

I have used it before and it was junk. putting screen shot in the res file. Why would you want screenshots in a res file? Then the thing would comment out needed file.

Way to deliver quality products that waste time and cause frustration like that damn sticky note on the home page thank you for finally getting rid of it.

You proved my point. I never was notified of a bug in any of the three versions I downloaded.

No I don't have the newest one because I no longer trust you tools to be working out of the box. I stopped using it when I found out that the third version I downloaded in October was stile buggy.

If you new it had bugs why release it? Why not notify people that the last version has bugs and they need a newer version.

Why do feel the need to add this to a res file

All of this advertisement is what was the cause of all my lost hours tracking down an error.
Why do you have to put you name in every thing? Why is there a text file with more adds in it when I get a zip file from you website.

The more I write the more I see it has to do with your ego and getting a plug in for you and this site.

Did you notice the two chars  before the first / ? This is the bug: Utf8 with or without bom. Some users have notified me about this problem and it was fixed some hours later.

If you had take the time to check the "search for updates" checkbox, you'll have been notified for updates, but perhaps is it too hard for you or perhaps did you prefer i bring it directly to you and install it by myself on your pc.

You said that the bugs were fixed years ago. The bugs were in the release I downloaded on October 6th. That was not even six months ago. So how could that be a years ago. can you not do simple math?

You failed to answer my questions so I will ask the again and add a new one about updates.

1. Why didn't you say any thing about your bugged program?

2. Why dose a res file need screen shots?

3. Why do you put adds for you and your website in the res files.

4. Why do you put an text file with adds in the zip files from your website.

5. Should the program not automatically notify the user of an important update to fix a bug?

Loon: I tell you that if you have checked "verify new version at startup" in setup dlg, you'd have been notified of new version and you could have read this in changelog.txt:
