17Buddies is proud to announce you the first 17Buddies mapping contest:

2012 Solstice Mapping Contest
.



This is a Counter Strike 1.6 mapping contest that will last from Friday, April 20th to Wednesday, June 20th at 11:59pm GMT.


Please read the following contest rules and information closely.


Rules:
  • Types allowed: Defuse, Hostage Rescue, Fight Yard, Gungame, or Aim map,
  • Only one external wad allowed: 17bsolstice.wad ( No Wadinclude allowed other than mapper's signature),
  • Use of 'standard' wads is allowed (cstrike.wad, halflife.wad...) and zhlt.wad allowed,
  • The theme of the map must be related to summer, solstice or sun,
  • Map must have at least 32 slots,
  • Map must have been optimized with 1200 wpolys maximum,
  • You must place prominently in the map at least one banner and one button 17buddies provided in the 17bsolstice wad file,
  • The map must be your own map and must be made for this contest,
  • Do not use custom content without permission from its creator,
  • Do not have any disgusting content in the map,
  • Only one map per mapper,
  • Only one mapper per map,



Judging:
  • Visual appeal and attention to detail
  • Overall fun and playability
  • Lighting – Is the lighting convincing for the situation it’s used it.
  • Detail – Pretty simple to grasp.
  • Texture use – Do the textures in the map all fit, and flow together?
  • Model use – Do the models fit the map?
  • Optimization – How well does the map play
  • Build quality of map
  • Brush use – Did you use brushes well in the map?
  • Entity use – Did you use entities well in the map?
  • Design
  • Balance – Is the map fair for both teams?

  • Post a message in this topic with your mapper's name before Friday, April 20th 2012 11:59pm GMT
  • Send a PM to Chapo with a valid email where we can send you messages.

Q: How long do I have to complete the map?
A: The map must be completed, and sent before Wednesday, June 20th at 11:59pm GMT.
Q: Can I use old work?
A: No, the map must be made for this contest.
Q: Can I copy paste stuff in?
A: Yes
Q: Can a friend help?
A: If you want, but only one mapper can be rewarded.
Q: Can I send more than one map?
A: No
Q: Can it be any kind of map?
A: No. Map must be a Defuse (de_), Hostage Rescue (cs_), Fight Yard (fy_), Gungame(gg_), or Aim (aim_) map.
Q: What Game?
A: Counter-strike 1.6
Q: Can I use wadinclude?
A: Yes, but only to add your signature to the map. No custom texture other than those provided in solstice.wad allowed.

Cesar => You're right, It's ambiguous.

For a Cs 1.6 map, I think that 10Mb for the whole files (.zip archive) can be a good size.

Is 'Apps' your mapper's name?

Some mappers told me in private that 10Mb should be too huge for a CS 1.6 map.

What are you thinking about reducing filesize (perhaps to 4 or 5 Mb) ?

10Mb is only too much if custom textures aren't allowed, otherwise I don't see a problem. It says only the 17b external wad is allowed, but does that exclude using wadinclude to build other custom textures into the bsp?

April 22nd is too far away!

Sorry, I made a mistake: Summer Solstice 2012 is the 20 June, not 22 June, so contest will end Wednesday, June 20th at 11:59pm GMT (edited in first topic and banners)

You can start before 20 April, but if rules change, your work may go to trash can (IMG:http://forum.17buddies.rocks/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Custom textures aren't allowed: only standard wads and 17bsolstice.wad. No wadinclude allowed.

Please don't send me draft work. I want to be objective in our judgment and for the moment, i don't want to see work in progress (IMG:http://forum.17buddies.rocks/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

You can use standard wads (cstrike.wad, halflife.wad, ...) which contain standard textures (IMG:http://forum.17buddies.rocks/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

17bsolstice.wad is just provided in addition, for 'summer' theme.

With more textures or custom textures allowed, theme may not be respected and contest will be more easy...

So no wadinclude (IMG:http://forum.17buddies.rocks/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

For real compile map i'm and other mappers use ZHLT tools - this tools including in map ZHLT.wad (this is special textures)
I can use it?

There are different versions of zhlt.wad online... please provide the one you'd like us to use or allow us to have our own 'special' .wad file with these textures. I've made my own and named it compile.wad and it contains textures like NULL, CLIP and AAATRIGGER.
