I'm not with the staff but I would like to answer you.
Why "too bad" ? The purpose of this site is to gather as many maps as possible, so it's easy to search and you have tools you don't have on others sites. I don't see the problem, like google which indexes sites, this site indexes maps. What's wrong ? Almost all the sites which provide a map database have maps from others sites too. You talk about asking the permission, that's just not possible to ask each mapper. You will encounter many issues. It's a free service which help to promote many unknown maps. The map is not altered or something. It's duplicated. I would like to see a mapper not happy to have his map used by many people because indexed on this site. Knowing such files are public and original author/comment are respected, it contributes to promote the map, for the sake of sharing and having a centralized place for people searching a new map. I see nothing where it could hurt. By uploading a map on internet you authorize anyone to have it. Once a server has the map, many players will share it with another players. So, asking the permission is pointless. I don't know if Chapo does that, but I would not be against to send an email, if found in a .txt or something, to the author telling him his map has been added automatically on this site, and if he wants to remove it, feel free to ask. |
