The server on which the site is hosted will not be renewed and without any alternative, we can not continue to provide the CS maps as we have done for over 11 fantastic years. It was a great adventure, but it will stop here. Our only option for continuing is to find free php/mysql hosting server able to accommodate 400GB of maps and support 2,000 users/day. If you think you have a solution or that you can help 17Buddies, please post in this topic urgently.

A part au début, il y a de cela plusieurs années. Je n'ai jamais eu de problème qui ne viennent de scripts qui surchargeaient le serveur, donc de ma faute. Par contre nous n'avons pas autant de fréquentation, c'est à tester. Concernant le prix, je peux trés bien vous créer un sous domaine avec acces ftp et bdd sur mon compte, ne serait ce que pour tester, si vous souhaitez avoir votre propre compte par la suite.

Je reste à votre disposition.

PS: Le mieux serait de traiter le sujet en MP afin de ne pas polluer ce topic.

Don´t use Hostinger .. The provider constantly locks the Websapce because the Serverload is to high. Why you dont use a Small vServer from OVH? http://www.ovh.com/fr/vps/vps-classic.xml

Acidounet gave me server datas:

Pross Intel® Core™ i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz
Memoire 8 Go but 16 would be better
1 To HD

And we have a dedicated Apache server for query.

For bandwidth and average traffic only Acidounet can answer but with 2000 unique visitors /day and almost 7Go of downloads/day, you can have a little idea of necessary bandwidth.

I apologize if this seems a bit out of place, but I happen to be a user from another site called GameBanana (some of you may have heard of the site), and I have a small proposition for you folks over here at 17Buddies. Although I'm not part of the administration team there, I would like to at least bring it to this site's attention that GameBanana has more than enough space to handle all of the content currently provided by this site, so the content provided here could be migrated over there in the event that 17Buddies is no longer accessible. Should 17Buddies go down after April 20th, I am more than willing to assist with uploading the content from this site over there in order to ensure that the content remains accessible to everyone, and I might even be able to get a few other members to assist with migrating the content over there as well.

LiveWire=> I know that , and you're one of our best donators. But donations are not regular income and are subject to variations that are not acceptable to rent a server.

Ganryu => 17b will never be given to Gb for multiple reasons. But, be sure that if we don't find a solution with a web server and a website, all 17b's maps will still remain accessible to everyone.

We are the HL memory and we always will. We will continue to make available our maps to the gaming community.

I've been afraid of increasing of data and traffic cause trouble for 17buddies.

Suggestions

1.Separate maps for HL1(Goldsrc) based games from later engine based one.Maps for Goldsrc are basically small size and later ones are very big.Archive of old maps is very precious,people can get newer ones everywhere.
2.Replace duplicate map with redirection.If there are same map,ideally binary equal,you should replace maps which derived from original with link to it.
3.Delete extremely low quality map.17buddies contains many low quality maps.Many of them are nearly worthless.However,I think deleting need significant vote of multiple higher level users.
4.Get rid common files from each archive. ex:as_riverside.wad,as_tundra.wad

Why won't you incorporate advertisements to get some revenue? Google Adsense or Chikita are worth a try at the very least.

GameBanana does it, so does gamemaps. Don't see any reason, not to incorporate ads, if they keep this ship afloat.

It would probably be too hard for us to buy 17buddies as we are very busy with our current websites, as well as legal issues surrounding your ported content. However if you or the staff here are interested in continuing to run the site we may be able to take over the technical and monetary side of 17B by hosting it on one of our 10 high end servers. Thus allowing you guys to focus all your time on the community.

Alternatively if you no longer want to work on the site we would be interested to buy the database and files off you for a one off lump sum.

If there is anything we can do to help you guys out, or if you have any other propositions please let us know either on here or by sending an email to Jon@machinefloor.com.

Chapo, our hosting is with unlimited domains, bandwidth, transfer (GB), MySQL databases and disk space (GB) and currently we are allowed website connections of 50 at a time which translates to 1200 a day, but we can increase that to 2400 a day. For decent web hosting , OVH proposes servers at 12€ / month (144 € / year).

Equivalent to the server we have now is more than 98 € / month ( 1176 € /year)

We can't rely solely on donations to pay such a server, although we occasionally have members like you who make huge donations (IMG:http://forum.17buddies.rocks/style_emoticons/default/ami2.gif)

The future server will be necessarily less efficient than the one we have now.

Numerous functionalities will necessarily be removed for the new server to host the site without being too slow. (IMG:http://forum.17buddies.rocks/style_emoticons/default/icon_neutral.gif)

i visit 17buddies almost everyday and my fovorite map sorce. i am cs 1.6 server manager from 5 years, i am sad to hear that 17buddies.net will close... i use blue host for my web host +fast download yearly i pay 120 $ and i wont coplaint for my host, cheap and it gives unlimited bandwith and storage.
