Forum 17B _ Your Maps - WIP - Tutos _ Cs_mansion_cz

Posted by: timawa 07/08/2014 - 17:53:07

cs_mansion will always be nostalgic to many CS veterans - including me.

Although by today's standards, the classic hostage rescue map presents many problems in terms of design and gameplay.
The most obvious of these is the early disadvantage of CTs.

So to pay homage to the original, I crafted this remake with these updates:

- CTs get a FREAKIN' CHOPPER that can circumnavigate the map and provide air cover. Don't sob Ts. It's possible for you to get airborne too.

- set at night to give CTs the cover of darkness

- added a front access point and LoS covers for CTs

- added sewer access points for CTs

- increased the overall interior size for hassle-free movement

- added a backyard pool area and side garage for new gameplay options

I did my best to retain the heart of the original so players will feel familiar yet refreshed.

And did I mention you get to ride a chopper? icon_cool.gif

Nice design, seems more realistic.

Maybe you can add a beta to people try it

Last time I worked on this was way back 2012. So I'm still looking for the working files.

I would like to recommend you to rename the final version of Cs_mansion_cz to something more recognizable.
Something like this: Luxury_mansion or VIP_Mansion. Or something more original.
I think it will be quite suitable for your map.

2 little bugs :

I've seen a model of tree disappears when i'm in the house

A little bug on the fire ( texture alignement )

My comments.

1) I love the map falloff. You may attach a jumpable fence (at some offset from the border) to protect players so that they may still kill themselves.

2) I have very strange lags when I am looking at the front of the house standing in front of it and when looking at fasade when standing somewhere in the main hall. My FPS drops from 60 to 10+ in sharp spikes with averaging at around 30 FPS. GPU usage is almost zero but CPU usage is 100% (one core is fully utilised). My CPU is Core 2 Duo E8500 (3+ GHz). I use one of last CS1.6 from steam with beta update. I am "Creating server" in the game. Launching HLDS gives same effect. My config: http://rghost.net/58451959

Some old nonsteam CS lags even worse.

3) I wish you have done the outer view better - walls and such. All rough edges are visible from heli.

4) The rear balcony is unsimmetrical - you cannot fall through the empty space between the right small roof and the balcony but you can fall through it on the left.

5) You can make dress hanger near the hostages deeper so than someone may camp there and be fully hidden. You can also make dresses from the dress truck in hallway transparent so that somebody can hide there too.

6) You can also make the door to the shower jumpable from the shell so that somebody can camp there.

7) You may make dropping from heli into water on the backyard easier. It is complex for unexpirienced players now.

8) Make the chick in the swimming pool destroyable. )))

Noted! Although I've struggled with the name. I tried thinking of an original but I keep going back to the idea that this was inted to be a modern remake of the classic cs_mansion rather than being a "spinoff" or alternate version. Kinda like a "cs_mansion 2.0."

Noted and thanks! I think its a bug with vis leafs or I hit the epoly limit.

Sorry. What was that?

2) I have very strange lags when I am looking at the front of the house standing in front of it and when looking at fasade when standing somewhere in the main hall. I think I hit the epoly limit or there's just too much visible sprites outside.

3) I wish you have done the outer view better - walls and such. All rough edges are visible from heli.

I have a low priority for outer walls (in terms of vis detail budget) because only a minority of players will give it attention. Besides, when you're in the heli, you're focused on raining hell on the T's. smile.gif

4) The rear balcony is unsimmetrical - you cannot fall through the empty space between the right small roof and the balcony but you can fall through it on the left.

Noted! Thanks!

5) You can make dress hanger near the hostages deeper so than someone may camp there and be fully hidden. You can also make dresses from the dress truck in hallway transparent so that somebody can hide there too.

I don't want to put too much camping areas near hossies to encourage the T's to spread out or take the offensive.

6) You can also make the door to the shower jumpable from the shell so that somebody can camp there.

Sorry. Lost you there.

7) You may make dropping from heli into water on the backyard easier. It is complex for unexpirienced players now.

Good point! More play options, more fun!

8) Make the chick in the swimming pool destroyable. )))

How do I do that? smile.gif

Overall I appreciate the comments, buds. Thanks!

But I would like to know more on the multiplayer (PvP) experience with the heli? So far I've only tried it with CS Bots.

I cannot help with testing it in teamVSteam game.

But heli is cool anyways - it heatens the game by adding another shooting point.

You may want to make glassless windows in it and widen the inner space so that CTs won't be too prone to wallbanging.

Posted by: timawa 21/10/2014 - 06:29:48

I'll see if I can put in more details on the heli.

Posted by: Lanm 21/10/2014 - 15:43:57

It might also look much better if you make blades of it like on as_oilrig - separate ones and not a spining disc.

Oh, sorry, I noticed your questions.

1) Sorry. What was that?

http://storage6.static.itmages.ru/i/14/1021/h_1413902179_3484651_9e78b05a53.png - my drawing is poor of course. Just a small fence so that players do not fall that easily.

2) I think I hit the epoly limit or there's just too much visible sprites outside.

But what CPU do you have if you do not have lags? )))

It is a pity that it hogs CPU because GPU is almost idling. It lags especially badly from the bird flight height.

6) Sorry. Lost you there.

http://storage9.static.itmages.ru/i/14/1021/h_1413902497_1025476_cb0f06af5f.jpg - totally unobligatory, just a thought.

8) How do I do that? smile

Dunno really. Just as chicks are destroyable on cs_italy maybe? )))))

I don't think it's technically possible. The entire heli is a func_train (brush based entity). I may make an illusion that there are individual blades.

No worries with the drawing. It's pretty clear. Maybe I'll do it. Thanks!

I also have the lags. I just overlooked it. Maybe a pitfall in the ol' engine. I'll figure it out.

I'll put a clip brush to prevent climbing. Thanks.

I saw what you did there. biggrin.gif I'll consider it.

I was talking the opposite - about making it accessible. )))

I do not really do any maps but I have a question.

Will substituting some of objects with MDLs reduce CPU usage? Are the models wallbangable?
